My Greatest Dream: The Gospel of True Blood Spreads

Posted on Monday, April 13th, 2009 at 12:35 pm in Bloodcast News Network.

When I say the word “Utopia,” what comes to mind?

I bet I’m not the only one who thinks of HBO’s “True Blood.” Have you seen this show? It really should be hailed as the apex of vampire storytelling because it represents the nirvana to which those of us who understand the truth about the world we live in (yes, that’s it’s inhabited by vampires) aspire. The premise of the show (and the book series from Charlaine Harris that spawned it) is that vampires and humans can finally coexist because vampires have learned to survive on synthetic blood. This is only like my greatest dream! Anyway, I bring this up because word on the street is that “True Blood” will be getting a bigger audience because it’ll also be shown on HBO’s sister channel Max now. (Guess Cinemax isn’t just for late night lovin’!). I’m all for the gospel being spread widely.

Let the truth be told: cats are half-vampires

Posted on Friday, April 10th, 2009 at 5:51 pm in Bloodcast News Network.

If you want to be up to speed on all things undead – and I know you do – you need to know what’s being disseminated out there in pop culture. I mean, that’s only my mission here at the Bloodcast News Network – to dispel the rumors and report the truth about the world we live in and the vampires that populate it too.

So let’s talk about the Swedish vampire flick “Let the Right One in.” (You’ve seen it, right? Don’t tell me you’re just “Twilight” fans. You know the vampire oeuvre goes so much deeper than Ms. Meyer’s work, all the way back to Mr. Stoker.) So, there’s one particular aspect of the indie flick that we need to discuss. Recent reviews point out that the movie adds a new component to vampire lore – the idea that cats don’t like vampire. This is SO not true! I have seen many cats that are half-vampires. In fact, my cat is half-vampire. You might be wondering why I keep such a pet. Well, here is a little-known fact about cat half-vampires. They do a much better job than garlic cloves or holy water at warding vampires away. I’ve never been visited by a vampire in my house and I know it’s because of my cat Jonathan Harker.
