Vampires do eat human, you know that right?

Posted on Thursday, July 9th, 2009 at 9:36 am in Bloodcast News Network.

Along with our current pop culture vampire renaissance comes the other side of the coin: the desire for a back-to-basics approach to bloodsuckers.

Sure, they’re pretty and sparkly in Twilight, sexy and dangerous in True Blood – but some purists eschew these new twists on the vampire mythology. Some just want their vampires to be vampires. As in not just bad boys, but demons.

After all, as this article points out, VAMPIRES EAT HUMANS. So some folks don’t want vampires to be made all kitty-cat friendly in their stories. “Luckily there are still stories to be told about vampires that don’t involve castrating them in the process. ‘Daybreakers,’ due in January, carves out an interesting take on the modern vampire myth without de-fanging the monster. In this world, most of the humans are now vampires, and those left with good old-fashioned blood pumping through their veins are captured and harvested. Instead of vampires as a metaphor for struggles with abstinence or racism, Daybreakers uses them as a lens to explore diminishing natural resources and even factory farming. Most importantly, they’re still kind of evil.”

Do you want your vampires good or bad?

I want my Vampires to be as mean and cunning as the come, Vamps glistening in the daylight are not for me. I like them spooky and pale afraid of daylight and crosses after all you need something to kill the evil beings with. An occasional day walker is good along as they are fierce and EVIL.

While I am always a lover of vampires and will watch almost anything involved with them, I am not amazed by Daybreakers. What really gets me is not the idea that vampires are being ‘castrated’. I am simply tired of vampires playing a transparent metaphor for something else. Whether its abstinence or dwindling resources, vampire stories are meant to be about VAMPIRES. I think Anne Rice and Bram Stroker got that. And if we are going to have any metaphors in there, please let them not be so obvious. I believe Joss Whedon also got that. It would be nice to see vampires more dangerous, but what we really need are better stories.

I am definitely one for the pure evil vampires that wouldn’t give a damn if they had to suck some poor human’s blood. Horrible, I know, but that’s how I always depicted my vampires to be. If I were to die because a vampire totally cold-blooded and heartless as I imagine decided he was thirsty and I was the only one around, I wouldn’t find it all romantic or amazing; people are just a source for survival to them. Plain as that.

I think a balance of both is always nice. What we see in the modern world is this new cliche of vampires falling in love with mortals and breaking everything that their race believes in. The ‘rebel’ if you must. It gets a little tiresome. Twilight was awesome, but I do think we need some truly evil vampires in every vamp story to remind us of the true nature they are supposed to portray. Not every Vampire should be purely evil though, because that’d be boring and unrealistic. It would be grouping an entire race as being ‘evil.’ So I think it’s good to get variety between the species, so it’s not de-fanging them, but more so showing that the personalities of vampires can differ as much as the personality of any living being. That’s why a balance is nice.

Vampires r just vampires. They can’t help drinking human blood. If they didn’t, I believe that they would be the most charming, beautiful, fantastic creatures in the whole world. You might say I’m a little too obsessed with them. :D

You know it’s funny, but fear of sunlight is actually a symptom of a type of worm. :)

With me I want my vampire (if i ever meet one, not likely) to be evil but soon finds out the error of his ways and try to make things better. Sort of cheesy but I like it.

I love vampires they are down right interesting but they dont always ave to be mean it is something they can choose and that is what i like about edward ( twilight) and nick ( i heart vampires) they chose who they wanted to be they control thier life. Im not against “bad” vampires i just like the ones who choose who they are and if that means that they are going to be mean then so be it. I do believe that they can choose weather they drink human blood or animal. it is possible that they can choose.

I like mine to be good with a little evil in them, like when they protect someone they care about.

I like a good cross between the two… Twilight’s main vamps are good but there is bad vamps throughout the series and even the good vamps arent always perfect. Also the new Vampire Diaries has both a good and bad brother and Interview with a Vampire had both Lestat and Louis, one good and the other evil… both is good!!♥

i love both “good” and “bad” vampires, but i must admit “bad” vampires appeal to me more. something about reading or seeing the way a non human entity completelyrips apart and demolishes a living being for the sake of survival or even for thier own selfish wants or no reason at all is just such a turn on…

There has to be a mixture of good and bad vamps. If there weren’t then it wouldn’t be as good as it could be. Bad vamps are sexy to hear about but it is sort of tied with being a good vamp and caring about what you believe in.

They should be cold blooded killers. This new romance bull crap is annoying and unlikely. If a vampire wants a mate they will drain their blood and turn them into a vampire not let them stay mortal and be “vegetarian”. Anne Rice explains in her novels that vampires can’t live off animal blood because it doesn’t contain the right nutrients. Not to mention you can’t have a vegetarian vampire unless he’s sucking out plant juices.

Remember kids Louie tried to only eat animals in Interview with a Vampire and then he ate a little girl.

Oh and if Dean Winchester doesn’t think its cool then its not end of story:

I say it’s just their nature to eat humans, it doesn’t mean they’re evil. I mean, if eating a living thing makes them bad, wouldn’t that make us bad for eating animals? Unless you’re a vegetarian, you should’t really say yes. And if the vampires choose to be vegetarians, like Edward or Stefan, let them. It all depends though on what vampire they are though, don’t you think? Different authors, have different versions. As far as whether they are good or evil…i think it matters on what choices they make. Like in Twilight, or New Moon rather, just because you are/were part of the Volturi, does that make you evil? I say no, Eleazar isn’t evil, he was on Bella and Edward’s and Marcus, well i think he just goes with the flow for the lack of his lover.

honestly, I’d go for anne rice. twilight is a disgrace to vampire novels, to books in total, and honestly portrays not real vampires, but wimpires. Furthermore, Edward displays all the signs of psychopathical killer. I have read many books and police reports on females and males who acted exactly like he did (minus the sparkling), and many of them ruthlessly tortured and murdered their significant others when/if the significant others tried to break up with them. So seriously, stop writing books about wimpires and sparkles, and let’s go back to the nice bloody good vampires.

I like my vampires bloodthirsty, evil, a little satanic, and most importantly NOT looking for a relationship with a human. Thank guillermo del toro and chuck hogan

I like them to be evil, psychopathic, genious… :D so obviously my favourite vampire is Angelus.. So bad vampires are my way to go. The good ones.. well, I think they just don’t work. The “I don’t want to be bad” after that kills a guy vampires are great too!! :DD
